One of the powerful stories in the Bible for me is Jesus’ visit with Mary and Martha in Luke 10. The two are sisters and already friends with Jesus. We don’t hear the story of when and how Jesus met them. In the passage, Martha is busy preparing the meal and hosting Jesus. Mary just sits at Jesus’ feet listening. Martha is a bit frustrated that Mary is not helping. From my experience of having two sisters and four granddaughters, the exchange is so familiar and typical it’s humorous. Jesus responds with insights for each of us. That we may know. I’m intrigued about the insights in neighboring with those around us. Come and be with us Sunday in our worship series, Jesus and the Art of Neighboring!
