I remember family gatherings around the round table in my parents’ kitchen which was large enough to play ping pong. Obviously, the table expanded to a very large oval. We enjoyed lots of holiday and informal meals with our grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends and other guests. Everyone felt welcome and included.
The recent exclusionary decisions from General Conference 2019 has troubled the LGBTQ community and all the pastors and churches who love, welcome, and serve the LGBTQ family. Welcoming and trying to reach out to those who have been harmed are now priorities for many of us. Jesus often described the kingdom of God as a feast at a banquet table where all are welcome. All are loved and all are included. Psalm 23 has the beautiful words “You prepare a table before me….” God in all God’s fullness goes before each and all to prepare a table, a place, a home, and an embrace.
Come everyone and all this Sunday for Wesley’s message Preparing a Table. God’s grace will flow in the midst.
Thanking God for welcoming,
