Reconciling Ministries Update

Statement Crafted
The first step to becoming a reconciling ministry is to craft a statement welcoming and affirming all people. We have written the following statement for consideration. This will be posted on Trinity’s social media, website, and Reconciling Ministries’ website only if the vote to become reconciling is approved:

“Trinity United Methodist Church in Duncanville, TX fully embraces our call to do what is fair and just to our neighbor, to be compassionate, kind, and loyal, and to walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8). We believe that ALL people have sacred worth and a place at the table. We welcome and celebrate ALL members of our community, regardless of age, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, ability, social status, sexual orientation, or place along their spiritual journey. We rejoice in the gifts that God sends us through the diversity of God’s people, and declare ourselves to be a Reconciling Congregation.”

Anonymous Questions Box
We really want to hear from everyone in the congregation regardless of what their thoughts and stance are. We also understand that some people who may have questions/concerns may feel intimidated speaking up in front of a group. To help alleviate this, there will be a container next to the Reconciling Ministries display beginning Sunday, June 23 for people to voice their questions or concerns anonymously. It is covered in holographic blue/purple sticker tape and will be clearly marked. Questions will be answered in the July meeting.

Open Table Meeting and Potluck
Our next meeting will be on Monday, July 15 at 6pm in Fellowship Hall. We will be discussing the books that have been available (Holy LoveTorn, and Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality). We will also be answering the anonymous questions at that time. This will be the last time that people can ask questions or voice concerns before we vote, so please make sure to let your voice be heard!

Voting
Voting on becoming a reconciling ministry will be held on multiple dates to allow everyone the chance to voice their opinion. Voting will be held at Trinity:

Wednesday, July 31 from 7:00pm- 9:00pm
Sunday, August 11 from 9:30am- 11:00am and 12:00pm- 2:00pm

We will have a meeting for any last-chance voting and vote counting on Monday, August 12 at 7:00pm
