Who hasn’t heard the story of the sisters Mary and Martha in Luke 10? Jesus is at their home for a dinner party with friends. Martha is busying offering hospitality in preparing the meal, setting the table, and coordinating everything. But she’s bordering on being frazzled. Mary is just sitting at Jesus’ feet listening to his message.
Martha goes to Jesus to tell Mary to help her. After all, Mary is taking the place of a disciple at his feet and not doing what culture depicts as a woman’s role. Jesus tells Martha that Mary has chosen the better part.
We all know Jesus’ words of support for Mary. We all know that we should spend more time with Jesus in prayer, Bible meditating, and more. But do we? Probably not. Do we even miss that quiet time with Jesus? I hope so. Good news is that Jesus is always near for us to just “sit at his feet.” How about this moment? How about this Sunday at 11? Come and be with us?
