Our altar is covered with a black cloth and blue stripes of material overflowing. This was initially done to honor fallen policeman in Rev.Jane’s first sermon in Lent. It remains throughout Lent to represent the abuse and bruising that Jesus endured in his ministry until his sacrifice on the cross.
It also represents the abuse and bruising each individual receives and gives during our lifetime, both physically and mentally. The blue stripes radiate from a glass candle globe which is held in two hands, reminding us that we are upheld in God’s hands all the time.
